The 10th of April is a day that still stings in Barcelona. Rome, the city of love, was the destination for Barça's self-destruction at this stage of the competition last season.
Barça will play tonight at a ground they do not have fond memories of, against a resurgent Manchester United side, who just a month prior to this game, were the team that everybody wanted to play against.
Barça have now been warned, Ernesto Valverde himself has admitted he made mistakes previously, when the Spanish side were chasing the treble that ended up being a dissappointing domestic double.
There can be no complacency from Barça, who last season defeated Roma 4-1 at the Camp Nou, before being defeated 3-0 in Rome, with Edin Dzeko's late goal in Barcelona proving to be far more important than anybody could have imagined.
However, things feel different this year, Lionel Messi for example is in inspiring form, scoring free-kicks in 3 consecutive matches before the 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid that has given Barça a hand on the La Liga title already. It is certainly going to be a challenge for the United defence to stop the great Argentinian.
Perhaps more worryingly for United, Barça have taken that form into the Champions League this season, with a demolition job over Lyon in the last 16, with Messi starring in that victory. In fact Messi is the top scorer in the Champions League this season as he continues to achieve things that nobody thought were possible.
It would also appear that Barça will not be taking United lightly after the 'Ferguson-esque' victory of the Manchester club over PSG in the previous round. It is yet to be seen if the lessons have been learnt from last season, but it is certain that it will be revealed at Old Trafford tonight, as Barça look to achieve their dreams at the Theatre of Dreams itself.
