Adebayo Akinfenwa is one of the legends of English football. Despite not having played in the Premier League, he is one of the most recognised faces in English football.
At the age of 39, the well built attacker has scored more than 200 goals in his career. This Tuesday, his Wycombe side will face Man City in the Carabao Cup. Man City made a lovely gesture with him by giving him a pre-match interview which proved to be rather interesting.
"We wanted anybody but City. Everyone knows we are going to be doing a lot of running around on Tuesday, but when you play in the lower leagues, you want to pit your wits against the biggest clubs you can, and there’s no doubt City are one of the biggest clubs in the world," Akinfenwa said.
"When the draw was made it was all, ‘yeah! City at the Etihad Stadium!’ and then the realisation quickly sank in and it was more like, ‘boy, we may not see the ball very much!’. However, he said his team will go out onto the pitch to "try and enjoy it as best we can and hopefully spring one or two surprises."
He also revealed which team he supported. "I’m a Liverpool fan, but I’m always happy when those boys do well, especially for England. The only time I don’t want City to win is when they play Liverpool. You want to see great football and salute great players," he concluded.
