Real Madrid are reliving their discovery of James during the World Cup in Brazil. The midfielder, who finished the competition as top goalscorer and showcased his talent, caught the eye of Florentino Pérez. Now it looks like Madrid have found themselves a James 2.0.
The on-loan River Plate midfielder, Quintero, has played a significant role in both World Cup matches for the Columbian national team. He was a shining star in the match against Japan, which ended in a loss for the Columbians, as well as a major annoyance for the Polish defence.
Julen Lopetegui already had Quintero under his command at Porto, and is well aware of what he can offer as a player, outside of what he has shown in Russia.
The complication comes with Quintero's contractual obligations with River Plate. He is under contract until January 2019, and the Argentine club then has a purchase option of €4million. It would therefore be a slightly complicated negotiation process.
The Columbian central midfielder seems to be the talk of the tournament. Even the Columbian national team coach Jose Pekerman praised Quintero highly for his performance against the Polish.
