Russian born Andrei Kanchelskis, who spent four years of his career at United under Sir Alex's Ferguson's side during the 90's has not held back in his assessment of the Dutchman's current squad.
He tagged along to see his old club's Champions League match against CSKA which ended in an uneventful 1-1 draw. The former winger, 46, said after the match that: "Van Gaal is too pragmatic, his footballers play like robots.
“They are kept within a strict framework, they are not allowed to improvise, contrary to what Ferguson allowed us to do.
“Van Gaal, of course, is a good coach but, in my opinion, he is not for Manchester United. I’m looking at his game for the second season now.
“He says that the transformation is going on, but I still couldn’t understand what he is looking for."
Heads will turn to Old Trafford tonight as United try to claw back a victory which would see them better placed to qualify into the last-16 matches.
