According to the newspaper 'AS', Lopetegui has requested the signing of Nacho after his recent appointment at Sevilla. At 30 years of age, the central defender from Madrid has become the main objective to support the defence at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
However, the media maintains that Sevilla are in the midst of major economic difficulty. In spite of his age, Real Madrid will not reduce the 30 million euros that they ask for and, in addition, the salary will be another issue for Sevilla.
Always in the shadow of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, Nacho has made a career at Real Madrid thanks to his versatility and consistency in all kinds of games, regardless of the opponent and the competition.
Able to play in all four positions of the defense comfortably and with enviable experience, the Madrid defender has been chosen by Lopetegui to lead the Sevilla defence, taking advantage of Real Madrid's need to sell some players this summer.
It is urgent to remember that Nacho was one of the players who defended Lopetegui during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu: "I want him to continue, it is everyone's fault because we are a team. For me, he's one of the best coaches I've ever had". He said before Lopetegui was sacked.
Despite the difficulty of the operation, 'Cope' has revealed that, with the arrival of Eder Militao, Real Madrid would prefer to get rid Nacho and keep Jesús Vallejo as the fourth central defender to free up some wage room as well as work towards the 100 million net spend that is now required to avoid UEFA pushing the Spanish giants for FFP.
A decision that, however, has led to interest of teams such as Inter Milan, Roma and Napoli to sign Nacho. A wild card of maximum reliability. A low-risk bet that Lopetegui has recommended to Monchi this summer.
