In comments to 'L'Equipe', Gerard Lopez, the majority owner of Lille, confirmed that a series of measures have been put in place including players' wages being reduced.
It is an immediate and exceptional reaction due to the coronavirus pandemic which has caused a terrible economic crisis at the club. Especially after the Ligue 1 season was suspended.
Gerard Lopez himself announced the cuts to the French media outlet. "Our economic model is based on the sale of three or four players a year. This period will not be easy and we will have to reduce our costs as much as possible."
"But I think that we can also shown a certain type of solidity. Because we managed to have a very good financial base," the president of the French side explained.
