Ronald Koeman's second spell in charge of the Netherlands did not start in the best possible way. The 'Oranje' were thrashed by an unstoppable France. A fact that did not please their coach and that he made it clear in a press conference.
"We had no chance of winning. After eight minutes we were already 2-0 down. Against a team like that you have to be very good. What hurts is that the first and fourth goals came from defensive mistakes. And, of course, also from Mbappe's quality," he commented.
And he did not hesitate to describe his players' performance as poor: "We had warned that we had to be very careful with these actions and we didn't pay enough attention. We showed very little in this match. I didn't expect such a difference.
Despite this, Koeman did not want to make any excuses: "It's not the team I had in mind to field, but you know the circumstances. I don't want to make excuses for this poor performance. We should have been much more aggressive and made fewer mistakes," he concluded.
