The transfer window is open. Clubs can sign footballers if they wish to. Some teams have taken that opportunity while others have not.
Barcelona, for example, are willing to carry on with the players they have got. The pandemic led to serious losses and the acting president together with the presidential candidates have reportedly agreed to put off any signings until the summer.
Koeman was asked for his opinion in a meeting. The coach asked for at least two reinforcements: Man City central defender Eric Garcia and a striker, who could be Lyon's Memphis Depay.
However, the boss has been told that there will be no new players coming in. Koeman spoke about that in the press conference prior to the Elche clash.
"You know my opinion, I've always said we're short of people... but it depends on the club's financial situation," the Dutchman said. "I don't decide, I spoke to the board. If we can't, I accept that and we continue as we are."
He admitted that he would like to have an extra footballer in certain positions. "There's quality, but if we want more, we have to improve things. We need more competition," Koeman continued.
The financial losses give Barca little room for manouvre. Koeman will have to wait until June to get those reinforcements who is so keen to get.
