Joaquin Caparros announces he is suffering from leukaemia

After the match against Valladolid, in the club's official channels. Joaquin Caparros announced that he has leukaemia. The disease has been detected early and the signs are positive.
"I have cronic leukaemia. I can carry out a normal life. I want to enjoy my profession, I am not being treated. I appreciate the opportunity the club has given me," he stated. "I am more switched on than ever, I am not going to talk about this topic again. I just want people to be calm," declared Caparros in an appearance for Sevilla FC's media channels. "I don't even need treatment. So relax because it is not going to stop me working. People can stay calm," he added in the post-match press conference.

News which has shaken Sevilla fans and the club. Caparros returned to Sevilla in 2018 to replace Vincenzo Montella. He was later appointed director of football and took over the reins once again after the sacking of Pablo Machin. This is his third spell on the Sevilla bench, since the coach he coached the sign at the back of last season when he replaced Vincenzo Montella.
Joaquin Caparros started his career as coach when he was 26. He made the big step up in 1996 when he took over at Recreativo Huelva. After three years and after taking the Andalusian club to the second tier, he left for Villarreal. However, his period of greatest success was at Sevilla, the club which he arrived at in summer 2000. Afterwards, he had spells at Deportivo La Coruna, Athletic Bilbao, Neuchatel Xamax (Switzerland), Mallorca, Levante, Granada, Osasuna and Al-Ahli Doha before returning to Sevilla.
Painful news both for Sevilla and for Caparros, a coach who holds the club deep in his heart. According to his words, he will be able to continue carrying out his role as manager.
