Jagielka to skipper England in Lithuania

Regular skipper Wayne Rooney didn't travel to Vilnius after being sidelined by an ankle injury for Friday's 2-0 win over Estonia while Chelsea's Gary Cahill, who deputised, has been rested by manager Roy Hodgson.

"I'm pleased Roy came to find me to break the news that I'll be captain. Hopefully we can get the 10th win to finish off in style," said Jagielka as England look to complete a perfect qualifying campaign for Euro 2016.

Jagielka, 33, will be earning his 38th cap on Monday in a game to be played on an artificial surface.

In a much-changed England line-up, Jack Butland is expected to start in goal with Jonjo Shelvey getting a midfield berth and Jamie Vardy of Leicester a likely starter up front.

"I mentioned Jack Butland, Phil will captain the team and take the place of Gary Cahill," said Hodgson.

"We've let James Milner go and we're already without Michael Carrick, who had to leave us through injury and Jack Wilshere is injured, so I mentioned Jonjo Shelvey.

"Jamie Vardy came on the other night and we are probably looking to see him, if not from the start at some stage during the game.

"We've been fortunate in the sense that we have come through the match on Friday evening unscathed in terms of injuries.

"We have a very interesting team for Phil to lead out tomorrow, a young team, but players we believe in and we are very conscious of the fact we could have a perfect record if we win the game, but we also know that it's not a given we will win the game."
