Is it goodbye to the player with more Champions League appearances than anyone else?

He is the player with more matches under his belt in the Champions League than any other - 170. That's 13 more times than Xavi, 19 more than Cristiano Ronaldo, the closest players to him.
To speak of Casillas is to speak of a player with huge history in the tournament. Three times he has lifted the trophy and seen his face in the reflection, all with Real Madrid, with whom he became at times the best goalkeeper in the world, alongside Gigi Buffon.
But all good things must come to an end, and this could be it for Casillas. For his team to advance to the quarter finals they would need to overcome a 5-0 deficit, practically impossible. Porto, save for an unexpected miracle, will not find themselves in the last eight of the competition and Casillas will say goodbye to the tournament for this season.
The question of whether it will be his final goodbye will be decided by Franciso Marques, comunications director at Porto. "The club needs to save money, and Casillas has a very high salary, when his contract comes to an end we will have a lot more money year on year," he said.
If these words were a warning that this would be Casillas' final season in Portugal, then his future in the Champions League depends on which team he moves to next.
