Frenkie de Jong is one of the big names on the Barcelona transfer market. The midfielder has been on the agenda of Manchester United for some time and they have even made offers for him with different economic proposals.
For its part, the club, interested in his departure for economic reasons, has been rejecting them all, although in the last few days there seemed to be an agreement for 85 million euros. However, it is the player who has no intention of moving from the Spotify Camp Nou.
But if he really wants to stay this summer, De Jong will have to accept Barcelona's conditions. The club, with a view to easing the delicate financial situation ( now relieved by the financial levers), will impose a considerable salary reduction that the player will have to accept, according to 'Marca', in order to stay.
Joan Laporta, the club's president, said last Saturday that they would do "everything possible" to keep De Jong, but the numbers tell the president the limits of "what is possible". If he does not want to lose part of his high salary, Barca will move to speed up negotiations with Manchester United.
De Jong is paid around ten million euros a year, an amount that is far from the new reality of the Catalan giants. But there is a certain optimism in a club that relies on the repeated intention of the former Ajax player to continue in Barcelona to believe that he will say "yes" to the cut. In this way, they will save a good deal of money. And in the event of the player's refusal, they hope to get back the 85 million they paid, between fixed and variable, to the Dutch club.
