It had been widely reported that Barcelona made a significant effort to sign Di Maria during the summer and the former Manchester United man has now confirmed as much.
Speaking to 'ESPN' ahead of Argentina's friendly against Russia on Saturday, Di Maria said: 'I was very close to signing for Barcelona'.
The move would have caused indignation from some Barca fans, given the player's time at Real Madrid earlier in his career.
In the end though, Di Maria remained at the Parc des Princes and he has gone on to make 11 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 leaders so far this season.
Despite some decent performances though, Di Maria is expected to be one of the casualties of the fire sale expected of PSG in January as they look to maximise their incomings in order to comply with Financial Fair Play.
