Varane thinks that it is not easy to go almost six years away from the France team to return and show a great level. He is referring to France and Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema, who scored a brace in the last group game against defending champions Portugal.
"I speak quite a lot to Karim. He's a great player, very great even, but returning to the national team after six years away isn't easy. Against Portugal, he managed to score two goals and he did it very well," the central defender said about the striker. He holds him in high regard.
When asked about whether Didier Deschamps listens to his players' suggestions, the defender said that the coach "is open to talk about changes to the system. He never hesistates in speaking to whole squad so that we are more comfortable during the encounter."
He also talked about France's next opponents, Switzerland. France are the favourites and if they win, they will play Croatia or Spain in the quarter-finals. "Switzerland are a team that aren't afraid of playing with the ball and they score lots of goals. We'll have to be alert to stop them. We'll have to be efficient," Varane concluded.
