"I'm ok with VAR, there was a lot of injustice before"

Atletico are facing Cultural Leonesa, a team that, in theory, should be a comfortable win for Diego Simeone's men. 

While speaking ahead of the clash, the video assistant referee system (also known as VAR) was mentioned, as it will not be available until the round of sixteen, and the Atletico coach thinks this is a mistake: "For me, I always prefer to use VAR, I would rather have the VAR make mistakes, and I am sure there will be some, but there will also be more justice. I prefer VAR because it's an improvement in terms of justice in the game, there was a lot of injustice before". 

Regarding the new model of playing at home for the worst-placed teams, he said: "We have to adapt to the decisions that are made. It's much more entertaining and difficult for everyone in this Cup; we have to make demands on ourselves against the home of other teams."

He even stressed the importance of the match: "It's a complicated game like all the direct qualifying matches, it's a field where La Cultural hasn't lost since 2018. We have to play well and win. That's what counts."

"The Cup is an important competition, we face it with the greatest enthusiasm. We'll be playing against a team that's strong at home, which is of the highest calibre and we have to keep an eye on their play, on counter-attacks and fast transitions. We will play with the intention of moving forward," he added.

As for the rumours that place 'Mono' Burgos as a solo coach, he said: "With Germán we know each other for 25 years, we have been working together for almost 10 years and whatever he has to say, or what he needs, the club will explain".
