"I feel for Mane, this World Cup deserves the best players"

Sadio Mane's absence from the World Cup has been a tough blow for Senegal and also for his ex-teammate Virgil van Dijk, who expressed his deep sadness at the African's absence from the World Cup.

In a press conference, the Dutchman was asked about the footballer's injury, and the player responded: "I feel really sorry for him that he's missing the game against us because this World Cup deserves the best players, and Sadio is one of them". "He's my friend, and I'll miss him", he added. 

The striker was removed from the squad after the injury he suffered against Werder Bremen. The medics checked him over and found a problem with his calf, which could mean being out for a few months.

Van Dijk added that "Argentina, Brazil and France are the favourites", but emphasised that The Netherlands have a good group, a very experienced coach and, most of all, great togetherness.
