Hernandez Hernandez to referee crunch La Liga 'Clasico'

The referee of the Las Palmas Committee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez will officiate next Sunday's 'Clasico' between Barcelona and Real Madrid, in which he will be assisted by the Valencian Juan Martinez Munuera as VAR.

The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Thursday the referee designations for La Liga matchday 35, in which Barca-Real Madrid will be played on Sunday 11th at 16:15 (local time).

It will be the fifth 'Clasico' for the 42-year-old referee from Arrecife (Las Palmas), who made his debut in a duel between Madrid and the 'Cules' at Camp Nou in the 2015-16 season, which ended with a Real Madrid victory (1-2) on matchday 31, and repeated in the 2016-17 campaign, on matchday 28, at the Santiago Bernabeu (2-3).

The CTA appointed him again for the Barcelona-Real Madrid (2-1) of the 36th matchday of the 2017-18 season and for the tenth matchday of the 2019-20 campaign at the Camp Nou, his last precedent, and which ended with a poor 0-0 draw.

This season in La Liga EA Sports he has refereed Real Madrid on three occasions: in their visit to Betis (2-1) on matchday 26; at the Bernabeu against Getafe (2-0) on matchday 15; and against Celta at Balaidos (1-2) on matchday 10.

With Barcelona he has only refereed in their visit to Sevilla (1-4) on matchday 23, but refereed in the first leg of the semifinals of the Copa del Rey against Atletico Madrid (4-4) on February 25th.

A La Liga referee since 2012 and an international since 2014, Hernandez Hernandez refereed the 2016-17 Barcelona-Sevilla Super Cup final (3-0) and in the 2022-2023 season the semifinal of this competition, a Real Madrid-Valencia (1-1/4-3).
