Barca are looking for a right-back for the 2023-24 season. Joao Cancelo, among others, is on their shortlist. The 'Cules' president Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany, sporting director, met with agent Jorge Mendes to discuss this player as well as Asensio, Balde and the future of Ansu Fati.
'Mundo Deportivo' claims that Barca are interested in Cancelo, but the club do not have high hopes of seeing him at the Camp Nou. The club consider his arrival as very complicated.
The defender is currently on loan at Bayern and will return to City in June if the Bavarians do not buy him for 70 million, as they have a non-mandatory option to buy the Portuguese. Barca know perfectly well how the English club negotiate and understand that they are not going to give Cancelo away, but will ask for a significant amount of money either for his transfer or for his loan.
'Sport' adds more information about this possible transfer. This other newspaper estimates that City would ask Barcelona for around 20 million euros for the Portuguese to leave him on loan for a season.
Aware of the difficulty of this operation, 'Mundo Deportivo' claims that the Catalan giants already have other names on the table. Gustan Meunier, who has a contract with Borussia until 2024 and has already been contacted by the club. United's Diogo Dalot is also very much on the table, although this option would also be quite complicated. Juan Foyth is another player they like, but in this case they have not yet approached the Villarreal player.
