Sergio Busquets has spoken about Barcelona's current situation in which they are seeing some of their greats exit the field of play to make way for fresh, young talent: "important players have gone and a new selection has arrived. But the aim is the same. Yes it is true that a new generation is arriving, and they are testing many players. This is the reality", he confirmed.
"In the dressing room, I have more responsibility, I am the vice captain and my experience has afforded me this role. On a footballing level it's the same as always. I have always been important, except perhaps the first year. Then I gained trust from Del Bosque, Julen and now with Luis", he added.
The Barcelona midfielder is satisfied with his current form: "Every player goes through bumps in the season. I am happy with my performance and I hope to continue for much longer".
He made it clear that the most important thing for him in football is to win: "Playing well? Each coach has his own ideas. The important thing is to have an idea. After this, I believe that to win the best thing is to play a leading role, to have the ball ... but a winning team does not only play to have possession, but to play well in defence, and to have a balance", he added.
One other theme addressed in the interview was the VAR: "I have always been a supporter. There is more justice and it helps the referees more. Now, I believe it can be used a bit better. This will take time. I hope that in the future it will be much more effective".
"Any sensible person would want to see fairer and more just football. Some people are in favour and some are against. What we want is for there to be no controversy", he highlighted.
Lastly, he had time to talk about Lionel Messi, clarifying his differences with Cristiano Ronaldo: "When he retires we will miss him a lot. For me, Messi is the best, he has everything, he participates more in the game, he does things which nobody else does. But Cristiano is a great player and we can all see his level of goalscoring. Perhaps he doesn't have as much quality, nor as much at stake, but on the level of ambition, goalscoring, winning, Cristiano is one of the best".
"What you have is what you have earned. To have the best in the world, or some of the best, that doesn't guarantee winning the Champions League", the Sabadell midfielder concluded.
