Gueye's low effort deflected in off the hapless Cionek to put Senegal ahead
Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr, Mbaye Niang, Mame Biram Diouf, the Senegalese side has plenty of talent up top, but it was defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye , preferred in the middle of the park to West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate, who got their World Cup campaign off the mark.
With 37 minutes of the game gone, Mane fed the Everton midfielder 20 yards out and he took the opportunity to try his luck with a low effort.
In truth, he didn't catch it particularly well, but it was good enough to clatter into the shins of the hapless Thiago Cionek and wrong-foot Wojciech Szczesny in the Poland goal to give the 'Lions of Teranga' the lead.
On closer inspection, Gueye's effort appeared to have been going wide, leading to the goal going down as an O.G.
In putting through his own net, Cionek joins the likes of Nigeria's Oghenekaro Etebo and Morocco's Aziz Bouhaddouz in finding the net at the wrong end so far in the tournament.
