There is news on Barcelona trying to renew Gavi. 'Marca' says that the board have made progress on talks and, now, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports on Twitter that the academy player is set to pen a five year deal until June 2026.
Barca's plan is to considerably increase his salary and buyout clause. In fact, the plan is for his wages to keep on increasing as time passes. If his level keeps on increasing significantly, he will keep on getting rewarded as he becomes a more and more important player for the team.
'Marca' also adds that Chelsea, the footballer's main suitor up to now, are not thinking of paying his buyout clause, at least not for now. This is good news for Barca as they will be more calm going into negotiations.
Gavi's current contract at Barcelona expires in June 2023. Extending it by three years would make sure a footballer who is set to be key under Xavi Hernandez will stay. The coach has also shown he has faith in him as he started the player against Espanyol and Benfica.
