Xavi Hernandez is realistic about the Frenkie de Jong situation. He knows that his president, Joan Laporta, is in charge of a delicate financial situation and, if a big money club such as PSG or Manchester United comes on the transfer market, it would be no surprise if the Dutchman were to leave his squad.
"He is a key player for us and should remain so. But it all depends on the economic situation, we'll see what happens," said the coach after the end-of-season friendly against the Australian League All Stars. His side came from 2-1 down to win 2-3.
"I was surprised by the number of people who came to watch the game and the number of Barcelona fans. They enjoyed themselves, they had a great time and, for the spectators, the match was very exciting," added the coach about the atmosphere in the stadium, which was built for the 2000 Olympic Games.
Frenkie de Jong, while Xavi Hernandez and Joan Laporta manage the day-to-day running of Barcelona, has several clubs interested in him for the 2022-23 season. Manchester United, City and Paris Saint-Germain are the clubs that have been the strongest rumoured bidders for him in the near future.
