Just a few hours after beating Osasuna team with their second string side, league leaders Real Madrid returned to training with their mind on the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.
Zidane's rotations, up to eight changes for the Osasuna game, mean a good part of his starting eleven will be fresh. Zidane separated those which were starters against Osasuna like Ramos, Casemiro and Kroos from the rest who had a more intense training session.
Luka Modric and Isco were back after recovering from muscle issues and Marcelo is trying his best to be fit for the Atletico game. The Brazilian completed part of the training session with the group and the coaching staff are keeping a close eye on how he recovers.
Depending on how Marcelo develops in the coming hours, either he will be the man at left back at the Madrid derby or Nacho Fernandez will continue who covered against Osasuna the absence of Ferland Mendy.
The players absent from the training session were Mendy, who starts his recovery process from his second muscle tear this season, and Marco Asensio, who is continuing his recovery from his long lay off.
Zidane also included academy players in training as well as Rodrygo, Carvajal, Varane, James, Bale, Hazard and Benzema. They took part in a different training session which focussed on moving the ball and tactics.
The last training session before the big derby will be on Friday at 11am and Zidane will have to include whether to include Marcelo in the squad or not.
