Having spent several years at Manchester City means that he had to face some of the best players on the planet. And to do so under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, who is always raising the bar in terms of success, means the teams faced take the task in hand very seriously.
That is why Fernandinho has played against practically all the players that can be considered the best of the generation. The Brazilian midfielder, who is now also an emergency centre-back, spoke about his toughest opponents in a questionnaire with the former United player Kleberson and surprised many with one of his answers: Diego Costa.
"My toughest opponents are obvious. Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe... They're all so good that they cause defenders a lot of trouble," he said.
"But, for me, one of the hardest guys I've ever had to score was Diego Costa when he was at Chelsea. He was in a brutal moment. I hope I can play against him again," said the Brazilian international.
The two had several major Premier League showdowns in Costa's time in England with the London team.
