'ESPN': Messi could renew his contract once again

Leo Messi's future could continue to be linked to the Camp Nou much more than the two years he has left on his contract. If he finally renews his contract once again, he will do it for the tenth time since he reached the first team all the way back in 2004.
'ESPN FC' confirmed that the Catalans have the intention of renewing their main star and that even initial contact between both parties on the matter has begun.
In these moments, Messi has a contract until 2021 so renewing his contract is not urgent. That said, if the club and the player do not agree to a new contract, the man from Rosario could be free in 2021. He would then be able to go to any club he likes for nothing.
The cited media outlet assures there is a renewal clause in his contract which means it could be extended by another 12 months.
In any case, Barcelona's objective is to give Messi a four year deal so that he remains a Barcelona player until he is 36. He could sign this before he turns 33.
You have to remember that Josep Maria Bartomeu's term as president ends in 2021 and in principle, he will not be able to stand again for re-election, so his desire is to renew the player for many more years to come.
In addition, Bartomeu said not long ago that he would not mind offering Messi a lifelong contract. The Argentine has formed part of the best Barca in history and the biggest prize they could offer him would be a contract of that nature.
Leo Messi's last contract renewal took place in 2017 and his first contract in 2004, 15 years ago. Barcelona improved his contract twice in 2005, once more in 2007, again in 2008 and once again in 2009. His buyout clause kept increasing gradually up to 250 million euros.
The Argentine most recently renewed his contract in 2013, 2014 and finally 2017. Messi has said on numerous occasions that he would like to retire "at his home", presumably Barcelona.
As well as Messi, Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez all see their contracts expire in 2021.
