Without the trust of Mauricio Pochettino and after missing pre-season following injury at the back end of the last term, Julian Draxler had no other option, but to leave Paris temporarily.
According to 'L'Equipe', Draxler will play for Benfica and the Portuguese side will have him almost for free. His stay in Portugal will be largely paid for by PSG. Benfica will only pay 20% of his salary while the Ligue 1 champions will pay the rest.
The French paper reported that the Portuguese club paid 2.5 million euros for his loan deal and will 1.4 million euros out of his salary.
As he did not have many alternatives in Germany, the midfielder chose Portugal. Benfica, who are in good form, are looking to at least make the last 16 of the Champions League for the second year running and try and win their domestic league.
With the World Cup just around the corner, the German footballer decided to join Benfica and national team coach Hansi Flick will be keeping a close eye on him.
