24th May is a double anniversary for Real Madrid fans. It is six years and 20 years since they won their 10th and 8th Champions Leagues respecitvely.
Six years ago, Real Madrid won the first of four Champions Leagues in five years. They were then coached by Carlo Ancelotti with Zinedine Zidane as the assistant and Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid despite being 0-1 down in the 93rd minute.
After Atletico's goal by Diego Godin after an error by Iker Casillas, Atletico defended Real's attacks well especially as Real Madrid picked up in the second half. When they were less than three minutes away from the trophy, Sergio Ramos headed home.
That forced extra-time and a fatigued Atletico Madrid threw in the towel. Bale made it 2-1 in the 110th minute, Marcelo then made it three before Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty completed the 4-1 win.
14 years earlier, Real Madrid defeated Valencia in Paris. That was the first ever all Spanish Champions League final.
'Los Che' were the favourites, but Real Madrid's experience was the difference.. Fernando Morientes put Real ahead towards the end of the first half.
Steve McManaman made it two halfway through the second period before Raul beat Canizares 15 minutes from time. That was the club's eighth Champions League and the ninth came just two years later in Glasgow. The win over Atletico in Lisbon in 2014 was 'La Decima' and Real have won it three more times since then.
