The young defender was told by surgeons that he would never play again, such was the seriousness of the break that he suffered following a challenge in 2016.
"It [was] the worst injury you could possibly imagine" Scuderi's surgeon said at the time.
"Pretty much everything tore: the ligaments, all the muscle and tendons."
The following two years have involved 9 surgeries and months upon months of rehabilitation to try and get back to fitness.
More than 700 days after that fateful day in his career, Scuderi took to the pitch for the first time in a Dortmund shirt for a reserve game against Luner SV.
"After a very long and hard time, where the doctors had already written me off. Thanks to my family and my friends and the BVB, without you I would not be back." Scuderi wrote on Instagram.
