Ousmane Dembele has a Barca contract until 2022. There is a risk the left winger could leave for free in the summer if Barca to renew the player.
The board are working their socks off. They have reportedly made an offer to the Frenchman: a contract for two more years, that is to say, until 2024.
However, they have not received an response to the offer up to now. And that is why the Barca board are a little afraid. They believe the agent will make them wait until at least January. If a suitor comes knocking on their door, they could use him to try and get a better contract.
But Joan Laporta, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', is relaxed. The Barca president is relaxed because he had a sincere conversation with Dembele himself.
The president spoke to the player to tell him that Barca wanted to keep him past 2022. He told him that he is a key player in the team in the short and long term. The winger was delighted and told him he wanted to stay.
It remains to be seen what happens with Dembele. There is still time and at the Camp Nou they are waiting to get this sorted out before any other European club can even tempt the Frenchman.
