De Laurentiis would have called Ancelotti back had he been free

Gattuso's arrival has not helped Napoli turn their dire situation around. Usually accustomed to fighting for Champions League positions and serving as Juventus' main competition for the Serie A, Ancelotti's former team find themselves in the middle of the table.

Gattuso has not yet managed to solve any of the team's issues. With their loss to Fiorentina, Napoli have now gone three games in a row with zero points.

As explained by the 'Gazzetta dello Sport', Aurelio de Laurentiis already regrets his decision to fire Carlo Ancelotti. In fact, he would have called him back if the coach was still free.

The poor relationship between Carletto and De Laurentiis this season led to his dismissal and subsequent departure to Everton. However, the unhappy Naples boss now regrets the situation.

"The performance was embarrassing, we must apologise to the fans and the city. It's difficult to explain the regression compared to the first three games of my tenure," confessed Gattuso after the match.
