De Burgos Bengoechea appointed for Copa del Rey Clasico final

With just days to go until the showpiece final at La Cartuja, the eagerly anticipated Clasico has now been assigned its referee. De Burgos Bengoechea will be responsible for officiating the latest chapter in this storied rivalry, with Gonzalez Fuertes supporting as VAR official.
It will be the fourth occasion on which De Burgos Bengoechea has refereed a match between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The first came in 2017, during the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup under the previous format. Los Blancos emerged victorious at the Camp Nou with a 1-3 win, courtesy of a Pique own goal followed by strikes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco Asensio.
He would not oversee another Clasico until six years later, again in the Spanish Super Cup, this time under the final four system. That 2023 final, held in Saudi Arabia, saw the Catalans lift the trophy with a 3-1 triumph as Gavi, Lewandowski and Pedri found the net.
Earlier this season, De Burgos Bengoechea also took charge of the fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Barcelona claimed a resounding 0-4 victory. Following a tightly contested first half, the Catalans ran riot in the second, with Lewandowski scoring twice and Lamine Yamal and Raphinha adding their names to the scoresheet.
