David Villa retired from international duty two years ago, but the former Barcelona and Valencia striker may be in line for a surprise call-up to the Spanish national team once again after impressing for New York City.
Villa, 34, has played 33 times for Patrick Vieira's side this season, scoring 23 goals and Spain manager Julen Lopetegui admitted that he has been impressed with the veteran forward's form in the USA, so much so that he is even considering calling Villa up.
"The truth is that I saw him very well and playing with a lot of intensity," the Spain manager told 'Onda Cero'.
"Villa continues to play at a very good level and in the future we will see if he can return.
"We don't close the door to any player and we always have consideration for players that can help the national team.
"Villa is well, playing with a lot of rhythm, scoring lots of goals and showing a great attitude.
"He is a player who has done priceless things for Spanish football".
Villa is Spain's all-time top goalscorer with 54 goals in 97 games and he may well be tempted into coming out of retirement to play an iconic 100th time.
