The division has gained a reputation for big spending in recent years, having successfully lured a host of top players away from European sides.
However, the Chinese Football Association has been implementing reforms to prevent such lavish spending, with state news agency 'Xinhua' claiming that retrictions will now be introduced on cash injections for clubs, player bonuses, transfer fees and salaries.
The likes of Oscar, Ramires, Hulk, Paulinho and Graziano Pelle all currently play in China, whilst Axel Witsel and Carlos Tevez are among the other big names to have passed through the CSL in recent years.
Those signings may now be a thing sof the past, though, with the latest wage restrictions coming off the back of previous reforms that saw heavy taxes placed on transfer fees exceeding 45m yuan (£5.07m) for foreign players and 20m yuan (£2.25m) for Chinese players.
