While the World Cup is still going on, the tournament has been temporarily overshadowed by the transfer of probably the only man who could do that- Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese brought to an end a record-breaking 9 year stay at the Bernabeu in which he scored an incredible 451 goals, won 4 Champions Leagues and 4 Balon D'Or's.
The Spanish press focused on this incredible record, with newspaper 'Marca' designing an impressive design that showed 451 circles representing a goal he scored for Madrid, each with the club crest of the team the goal was scored against, and Ronaldo in the middle scoring the iconic over-head goal in the Champions League last season, ironically against his new club Juve. The image was accompanied by the caption 'There will never be another'.
Their fellow Spanish publication 'AS' also wanted to wish farewell to the forward, showing a picture of him on holiday in Greece, where the deal was finalised on Tuesday, with the caption 'Ciao Cristiano, it was great while it lasted'.
Portuguese paper 'O Jogo' were looking to the future more than their Spanish counterparts, coming up with the line 'Serie A Killer' and then publishing a list of goal-scoring records that currently exist in the Italian league, clearly expecting their national team's captain to break them in his time at the club.
Italian publications were equally looking to the future rather than focusing on Ronaldo's past record, with 'Corriere dello Sport' going with the headline 'Fiat Lux', in reference to the Agnelli family who have owned the club for decades, whose wealth comes from the car brand Fiat.
The striker will return from holiday with his family to be revealed at the club, and will start his four-year contract thought to be worth €30 million per year.
