The hearts of many Real Madrid fans were broken yesterday when 'Los Blancos' goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was hit with yet another injury setback in Tuesday morning's training session.
The Belgian goalkeeper, who has not been able to play a single minute of football this season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury before the season began, suffered another knee injury as his return to action was just around the corner.
After the news emerged, the club confirmed on social media that their goalkeeper had ruptured the inner meniscus in his right knee, meaning the Belgium international is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
On Wednesday morning, Florentino Perez's club announced that Thibaut Courtois had "successfully" undergone surgery on his knee injury and would begin his recovery programme "in the next few days".
"Our player Thibaut Courtois underwent successful surgery today for a tear to the internal meniscus of his right knee, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Courtois will start his recovery programme in the next few days," reads the statement.
