The Spanish FA, led by Luis Rubiales, needs to make a decision on who will be the next manager of the Spanish national team in the next few days. It does not seem that Fernando Hierro is among the candidates, but various coaches have been linked with the role.
Xavi has been dubbed by 'Cuarto' as the dark horse. He has his coaching badges and has recently confirmed he will continue to play in Qatar, and the FA sees him as an option for the role in future but not currently.
Xavi envisions continuing to play until 2019 and then becoming the coach of Al-Saad, his current club. The midfielder defended the decision of Rubiales to sack Julen Lopetegui and criticised the new Real Madrid manager for joining the club right before the start of a World Cup.
The player is a much-respected figure among the national team. He is also a Barcelona legend and has been a part of the recent successes of Spanish football, particularly the introduction of the Barcelona style of play to the team. All eyes are now on him.
