Much was made of the Chelsea's intention to exploit the Italian market following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as their new boss in the summer, but in the end Napoli midfielder Jorginho proved to be the only new recruit from Serie A.
One of the names that was heavily linked with the 'Blues' was Juve centre-back Rugani and his agent, Davide Tochia, has now confirmed the Premier League side's interest.
"Chelsea made a very strong push to negotiate, Juve evaluated it, but the player never asked to leave," Torchia told 'RMC Sport Radio'.
"His objective was to earn his place in the starting XI. Juve believed in the player and we'll discuss it during the contract renewal talks.
"It expires in 2021, so there is no urgency, but we cannot wait too long either."
Rugani knows Sarri well having played under the Italian boss during a two-year loan spell with Empoli between 2013 and 2015.
Still just 24, the strong centre-back is tipped for big things in his homeland, though he has struggled fo regular game time this season due to a combination of injury and the return of Leonardo Bonucci from AC Milan.
Should Rugani continue to find his path to the first team blocked, there is every chance Chelsea could re-visit their interest in January or even the summer.
