Cavani, the Valencia player who flirted with Barca in January

Edinson Cavani arrived at the Mestalla this summer from Man Utd. Since then, the footballer has played six matches, scored four goals and provided one assist for Valencia. He is, without doubt, Gattuso's main man. 

This Saturday, Cavani will have Barca as his opponents, a team he held talks with on more than one occasion. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the Uruguayan could have become a Barcelona player last January, when the attacker was still at Man Utd. 

Barca were looking for firepower up front. They thought about Morata, but the player was on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid and Juventus refused to get rid of him. Then, the Catalans set their eyes on Cavani. 

The Uruguayan started playing less after the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Barca surveyed the scene. Xavi and his coaching staff thought he would fit in at the club so the club began talks with his agent. 

Cavani was willing to move to the Camp Nou. The Catalans took a step forward and negotiated with Man Utd. The Uruguayan was just a step away from signing for Barca. It was all almost sealed because the Red Devils were willing to let him go in order to save on his salary and then Barca changed their minds. Aubameyang became a gettable target for the La Liga side and they forgot about Cavani. 

At Barca, they thought that the Gabonese would be a better fit. In addition, Arsenal were going to release him and he would join on a free. Therefore, the Catalans opted to cross Cavani off their list and he had to stay at Old Trafford until June 2022. Now, as a Valencia player, all of that is in the past. The goalscorer is happy and he only hopes to "take revenge" on Barca by scoring a lot of goals against them at the Mestalla.
