Gareth Bale confirmed through an official statement a few months ago on his social networks that he was hanging up his boots. The former Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Los Angeles FC player, after the World Cup in Qatar that he played with his beloved Wales national team, opted to leave a sport for which he lost his passion.
The former Welsh international's agent Jonathan Barnett defended his client in an interview with 'Goal': "There are a lot of idiots, especially in the press, who have written stupid and ridiculous stories.
"They didn't know what to talk about, they should have chosen another job, they just wrote rubbish. There have been a lot of people who have written some things because they had nothing better to do," he added.
"When the years go by and people look back, they will say that those who wrote these stories didn't deserve to be journalists, they should have had another job," he said.
Barnett himself settled the issue by praising the former British footballer: "Bale's career has been unbelievable. He became one of the best players in the world, he was even in the top three, he won a lot of things... if you look back on his career it's been exceptional.
