The number 9 shirt at Tottenham will be Bale's even though he does not play like a number 9. Bale cannot wear the number 11 shirt, but he will be wearing the '9' and it will not be for the first time.
He had the number 37 at Southampton and then changed to the 22. He began with the 16 at Tottenham and then wore the number 3 shirt until he became a winger and took the 11. He also wore that number at Real Madrid.
In his presentation as a new Spurs player, he revealed that he will wear the '9' shirt and that it will not be for the first time. This makes people ask themselves when Bale wore the '9' shirt in the past.
"I've already worn this number in a pre-season here at Tottenham. Do you remember when I changed from the number 3 to the number 11? Van der Vaart was still here," Bale explained while he was taking a picture of his new shirt.
"In pre-season I wanted to change number. I thought about the '10', but it was taken so in pre-season in New York, I wore the '9'," the Welshman recalled.
