The Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, highlighted that the win over Liverpool shows that Atletico are "very much alive" with a coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, who "is going to stay for a very long time at the club."
Cerezo attended the presentation of the first EFE trophy to the best female Spanish-American footballer. The ceremony took place this Wednesday at the 'EFE' headquarters in Madrid and the Mexican defender Kenti Robles of Atletico Madrid won it. Cerezo said that a few days back people were not giving Atletico a chance and on Tuesday they showed why they should be taken seriously.
"I always sleep well, the problem in football is that there are glorious days and not so glorious ones. A week ago, we were in big trouble and after one match, we are alive. Very alive. We won the game against a very difficult side, the best in the world they say, who were unbeaten in 30 matches. He who strikes once, strikes again and we know that very well because it has happened to us well. He said this after congratulating Robles on her trophy.
Cerezo highlighted the spectacular atmosphere which there was at the Wanda, "which is one of the best stadia in Europe, full and with fans dedicated to the cause. It was a magnificent spectacle and we got the result so we are all happy," he insisted.
The Atletico made a joke about Anfield saying that "it's a spectacular stadium, but an old one." He also joke saying its facilities are so poor it would not pass a UEFA inspection. He concluded by congratulating himself on the performance of the new signings this season and he praised Simeone. He had no doubt the Argentine would continue. "We have a magnificent coach who is going to continue for a very long time with us, I'm telling you now."
