Suarez and Ronaldo, the two musketeers

Since they first faced each other eight years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez have shown that playing against each other brings the best out of both of them.

In the ten showdowns between the two strikers, only once has neither of them managed to find the back of the net. Their statistics, their hunger and their competitive spirit always guarantee a spectacle in the penalty area

The one time that neither the Uruguayan nor the Portuguese forward managed to score against each other was, strangely, in the 2-3 thriller between Madrid and Barcelona in April 2017.

Over their ten meetings, they have racked up a total of thirteen goals, which shows just how lethal in front of goal they both are. Furthermore, they are almost equal in their threat, with Suarez scoring six to Ronaldo's seven. That being said, they have never scored more than twice in a game against each other.

Their shared history will reach a new landmark on Saturday, when they will face off in an international game for the first time. In fact, apart from one Ajax-Real Madrid game in the Champions League, all of their battles have come in the form of 'El Clasico' games

The game in an Ajax shirt was Suarez's worst battle in the pair's war. 'Los Blancos' came out 0-4 winners, and Ronaldo scored twice. Five years later, the Barca forward exacted his revenge, bagging his own brace in a 0-4 win at the Bernabeu.

Only on a couple of occasions have they matched each other, in the last league meeting at the Camp Nou and back in the 14/15 season, when they both scored a goal each

For the moment, Ronaldo is outdoing Suarez at the World Cup, having bagged twice as many goals as the Uruguayan.

That said, both have scored in two of the three games that they have played, and it seems highly likely that at least one of them will find their shooting boots when Portugal take on Uruguay in the round of 16.
