Ricardo Quaresma gave Portugal the lead over Iran right at the end of the first half, bending in a great finish to make it 0-1.

Tuesday's Group B clash between Iran and Portugal contained the possibility for both sides to qualify for the last 16, but the onus was on Iran to win, given that they sat third in the table before kick-off.

This showed in the first half, with Carlos Queiroz's side the more offensive of the two, however Portugal delivered a sucker-punch on the stroke of half-time, finding a goal out of nowhere.

The goalscoring move came in the 45th minute, as Ricardo Quaresma cut inside down the right wing. The midfielder headed for the goal, playing a neat one-two with Adrien Silva, before letting loose a fantastic curled effort with the outside of his boot from the edge of the area.

The goalkeeper watched helplessly as the ball flew into the top left corner, giving Portugal a 0-1 lead going into half-time.
