Mauricio Pochettino, speaking after his side pulled back a draw in Turin, had a special message for Ryan Mason, the English footballer who recently retired at the age of 26 due to a skull fracture.

Mason, a home-grown Tottenham talent, was decisive in Pochettino's beginnings at 'Spurs'. The midfielder scored a key goal in the first Tottenham victory under Pochettino, who had begun his time there with a streak of five games without a win.

After Tottenham's Champions League clash with Juventus, the Argentinian coach said that the door was open for Mason to come and join his coaching team. "Ryan has been at the training ground in recent days", he stated. "We have been talking to him with [head of academy,] John McDermott.

"He will be successful in whatever he does. He will always be a special player for me. He represents for me this change in all when we arrived at Tottenham."

"The door is open for me to help him; and the club because we love him and Rachel and George and all his family."

On Tuesday, Mason announced his retirement, which came as a result of a skull fracture that he suffered in January 2017 in a collision with Gary Cahill.

13 months later, he has been unable to overcome the problems caused by the skull fracture, leaving him no option other than retirement.
