Stuttgart and Union Berlin cancelled each other out in the opening minutes of the first leg of their Bundesliga promotion/relegation play-off tie. Gentner gave the home side the lead, but Abdullahi levelled the scores seconds after kicking off again.

The first leg of the Bundesliga play-off did not disappoint. At least the first half did not. Stuttgart, favourites to stay in the Bundesliga, struck first. But Union Berlin, who were in the hunt for automatic promotion on the last day, replied in very quick fashion.

It was close to half-time and despite the odd chance for both teams, it looked like it would be a draw at half-time. And it did end all-square at the break, but both teams managed to score

Stuttgart's was scored by Genter, who only had to finish off a brilliant run by Tassos Donis, who beat various defenders to put it on a plate for Gentner.

The players and fans celebrated the opening goal of the game, but 90 seconds later, the visitors kicked off again and they just needed 10 seconds to score themselves.

Abdullahi hit a good shot across the goalkeeper Zieler, who had no chance. That was a major blow for the home fans at the Mercedes Benz Arena while the travelling Union Berlin supporters were delighted at the rapid response.
