Alonso admits Vinicius and Mastantuono were 'not happy' with substitutions

Real Madrid continued their strong league form, securing maximum points to maintain their outright lead. Manager Xabi Alonso spoke to the media following the victory against Espanyol.
"It was a solid victory, more robust than spectacular, but a good one nonetheless. Controlled, without any stressful situations... Perhaps not the most thrilling, but I appreciate these types of wins. The 2-0 scoreline was important for managing the match. It’s a victory to continue our development, and now we must focus on Tuesday’s fixture," he stated.
Addressing Vinicius and Mastantuono's reaction to being substituted, Alonso said: "Vinicius only lacked a goal. It's true that he came off when he was at his best, and perhaps I could have waited a little longer to substitute him, but I felt we needed fresh legs to maintain control. Vinicius wanted to stay on because he felt good. Mastantuono also, for example. Were they annoyed? They weren't exactly thrilled, neither of them. It happens to everyone, but I'm very happy with Vinicius's performance. The schedule is demanding, and we must keep going."
Regarding the returns of Bellingham and Camavinga, Alonso confirmed: "They are two additional options and two high-quality players rejoining the squad. They will be integrated gradually after a long period out, and that is very good news for us."
Xabi Alonso praised Raul Asencio, stating: "It's excellent that he has been performing at such a high level. Regarding what happened at the World Cup, for him and the entire team, it was important to move past it because the context was different. Raul, like Alaba or Fran, will have their opportunities, but sometimes patience is required. He has been solid and dependable, and it's very positive for the team and for him to feel good about his form."
On Kylian Mbappé, Alonso commented: "Today he played a different role, as a link-up player. We discussed what was needed, and he had a responsibility to be closer to the midfielders, with all that entails. Kylian understands football very well and executes perfectly what you ask of him. It was a different role in a slightly different position than his usual."
Finally, Xabi Alonso did not rule out the possibility of Arda Güler and Jude Bellingham playing together: "It's true that they play in similar positions, but they can play together. It's something I have in mind. I don't believe they wouldn't combine well; in fact, I think they would do very well together. It’s a very viable option for us to put them on the pitch simultaneously. More possibilities are opening up for me with the return of players."
