Argentina boss Lionel Escaloni today submitted his preliminary squad of 32 players for the Copa America, which he will have to cut down to 23 in time for tournament this summer.

The Argentinian manager could have named up to 40 players in his preliminary squad, but he chose to name just 32 as he looks to make the whittling-down process that starts today easier.

Various Argentinian media sources such as 'TyC Sports' have suggested that Scaloni will publish the final squad during the coming week. Currently, there are 5 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 12 midfielders and 6 strikers in the squad.

Sergio Agüero has been included in the squad following his exile from the national team in the wake of Argentina's World Cup last 16 exit, and he is joined by Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala, whilst Leo Messi of course leads the list.

This is the preliminary 32 man Argentina squad for the Copa America:

Goalkeepers: Franco Armani (River), Esteban Andrada (Boca), Agustín Marchesín (América), Juan Musso (Udinese) y Gerónimo Rulli (Real Sociedad).

Defenders: Renzo Saravia (Racing), Gabriel Mercado (Sevilla), Nicolás Otamendi (Manchester City), Germán Pezzella (Fiorentina), Walter Kanemann (Gremio), Nicolás Tagliafico (Ajax,), Marcos Acuña (Sporting Lisboa), Ramiro Funes Mori (Villarreal) y Juan Foyth (Tottenham).

Midfielders: Leandro Paredes (PSG), Giovani Lo Celso (Betis), Exequiel Palacios (River), Guido Rodríguez (América), Roberto Pereyra (Watford), Rodrigo De Paul (Udinese), Matías Zaracho (Racing), Ángel Di María (PSG), Gonzalo Martínez (Atlanta United), Paulo Dybala (Juventus), Maximiliano Meza (Monterrey) e Iván Marcone (Boca).

Strikers: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Sergio Agüero (Manchester City), Lautaro Martínez (Inter), Ángel Correa (Atlético de Madrid), Matías Suárez (River), Mauro Icardi (Inter).
