There is obviously more to football than just strikers. The 'keeper, defenders and midfielders also have to perform in order to win, but in the end, matches are decided by goals and that's where forwards come into play.
Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid is no exception and two of La Liga's best attacking trios will go head-to-head at the Vicente Calderon. In terms of numbers, both teams' front threes are closer it seems, especially with all of the praise given to Diego Simeone and criticism of Zinedine Zidane.
Atletico's best forward is Antone Griezmann. The striker has scored eight goals and laid on another five for his team-mates in 14 games. Yannick Carrasco is just behind the Frenchman, having scored six goals and assisted three in 15 matches. Finally, fellow forward Kevin Gameiro has scored five goals and made three assists to take Atletico's forwards' total to 20 goals and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, for Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has played his parts in more goals than fellow forwards, scoring seven goals and assisting five in 12 games. Gareth Bale is just behind the Portuguese forward, scoring seven goals but has two less assists to his name. Benzema has contributed to the fewest number of goals out of all of the Madrid forwards, scoring five times and assisted twice, leaving Real Madrid's forwards with just one less goal and assis than their city rivals.
This means that Atletico's 'GGC' has partcipated in 31 goals in total, two more than Real Madrid's 'BBC'. What will happen at the Vicente Calderon? Will Zidane's forwards close the gap or will Simeone's men increase it? All will be revealed on Saturday.
