Memphis Depay is just a few suspenders and a beard from looking like a member of the Amish community, according to Netherlands legend Willem van Hanegem.
The Manchester United forward raised a few eyebrows as he turned up for national team looking flashy in a hat and a scarf ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Iceland.
And Van Hanegem, writing in his column after the Dutch lost 1-0 to Iceland on Thursday, putting their Euro 2016 qualification hopes in further jeopardy, laid into the former PSV man.
"I don't care that he comes to Oranje with a hat and a scarf," he wrote in Algemeen Dagblad.
"What he does outside of the pitch is his own business. But with a couple of supsenders and a beard, he could easily join the Amish people in America and sit on a wagon."
The former Netherlands star was also critical of Memphis' United team-mate Daley Blind, who was seen on camera covering his mouth as he talked with his team-mates.
"What is he talking about behind his hand?" he added.
"I think he has other things to worry about at the moment. But apparantly he thinks that is important."
