Lennon to remain as Bolton boss after private life probe

Wanderers announced on Sunday that they would look into a report in the Sunday Mirror that alleged Lennon made a threat to somebody he was said to be romantically involved with.

The Sunday Mirror also said Lennon tried to ban them from publishing the article and claimed the former Northern Ireland midfielder made a blackmail allegation to police but did not want to pursue it.

But on Tuesday Bolton confirmed that, having finished their internal investigation, Lennon would remain in his post at the Macron Stadium.

A club statement read: "Bolton Wanderers Football Club can announce that they have now concluded an internal investigation into an article published in the Sunday Mirror on Sunday 20 December.

"The club has dealt with the matter internally and acted accordingly, details of which will remain private.

"Neil Lennon will remain in charge of the first-team squad.

"The club will be making no further comment on the matter."

Troubled Bolton, who have debts of over £170 million ($252 million; 230 million euros), are bottom of the Championship and face a trip to fellow strugglers Rotherham United on Boxing Day.
